Band 7 Clinical Practice Educator – Fixed Term 12 months
The Royal Free, London NHS Foundation Trust is a very busy tertiary referral centre that provides intensive care services to the local, national and international population. The case mix is challenging and encompasses a wide range of services such as Upper and Lower GI including Liver transplantation, elective and emergency vascular cases and general surgical / medical specialities. The unit has 34 level 3 beds that are used flexibly and an 8-bedded SHDU.

In order to be successful in this post you will need to be an individual that is able to think outside of the box and be prepared to challenge the norm in order to ensure that a cutting edge education and training programme is delivered and developed on the ICU.

Demonstrable ability to meet the Trust Values
Relevant first degree and / or working towards a Master’s Degree or evidence of ongoing relevant courses for surgical care practitioner
Advanced Communication skills /course
Experience with robotic surgery
Recent experience in theatre nursing at band 6.
Experience as a surgical care practitioner
Experience in teaching multidisciplinary staff
Experience of working within research
Skills and Knowledge
Assessing patients to ensure they are clinically fit and healthy for the surgery
Surgical procedures under direct supervision of a surgeon such as wound closure
Evidence of participation in audit and the promotion of evidence based practice
Understanding of working in cancer network
Recognition of the role and responsibilities of being a trainee surgical care practitioner
Understanding of the role competencies of the post being aware of own boundaries and other members of health care team
Understanding of a multidisciplinary team especially with respect to the changing role of surgery
Research appreciation and ability to influence other through research finding
Demonstration of knowledge of strategic and national issues pertinent to nursing and area of specialty
Ability to be self-directed but also participate as a team member
Enhanced communication/negotiating skills
Able to contribute to policies and clinical protocols
Understanding of clinical risk, clinical governance and national benchmark
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
