It houses MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe, and is a hosting member of the PRACE European distributed supercomputing infrastructure. Context And Mission
The Computational Applications in Science and Engineering department (CASE) works with industry and academia developing software and applications that leverage the power of High-Performance Computing to solve real problems.
Specifically, the Natural Hazards and Risk Analysis group under the CASE Department at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center is currently looking for a Natural Hazards Research Engineer to collaborate in a project focused to address long-term (probabilistic) and short-term (deterministic) impacts associated to volcanic eruptions. The candidate will use dispersion models to elaborate impact foot prints accounting for the exposure and vulnerability of assets.
Elaborate input datasets
Run atmospheric dispersion models
Elaborate hazard maps
Stochastic analysis on hazardous events
Degree in Software Engineering or natural hazards related
Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
1-2 years of experience in running tephra models
Programming in Python and shell scripting
Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
Advance level in spoken and written English
Knowledge of exposure and vulnerability to natural hazards
Good communication skills
The position will be located at BSC within the CASE Department

Duration: Temporary – 31/12/2022 renewable
