Teaching Laboratory Technician (2 year fixed term) Job at University of St Andrews – St. Andrews

The

School of Biology at the University of St Andrews is one of the leading

departments of Biology in the UK. To fully

embrace our biodiversity, the School’s research and teaching degree programmes

cover all aspects of Biology, including Biomolecular Sciences, Cell and Systems

Biology, Evolution and Animal Behaviour and Marine Biology. The School has a five-level teaching

programme, with lecture class sizes in level one and level two of 270 students,

and final year class sizes ranging between 20 and 6 students. Practical classes are an important part of our

teaching.

The

School of Psychology & Neuroscience comprises in the region of 40 academic

staff (both ‘research and teaching’ and ‘education-focused’ staff),

approximately 30 administrative, technical and research staff, and more than 60

research post-graduate students. We have

been ranked the top Psychology & Neuroscience department for both teaching

and research in Scotland and amongst the best in the UK. In the most recent guides The School of

Psychology & Neuroscience was ranked first in Scotland by the Guardian

University Guide 2021 and top for Neuroscience in the Complete University Guide

2021. Research within the School of

Psychology & Neuroscience is organised around 4 core groupings: Perception

Cognition & Action, Cellular & Developmental Neuroscience, Origins of

Mind, and Social & Group Processes.

The

Schools are now seeking to recruit a full time, Teaching Laboratory Technician

on a 2 year fixed term contract to support the undergraduate student teaching

laboratories across both Schools. You will work with senior technical staff to

provide the wide range of services required for the smooth running of various

teaching labs.

You

should have good Highers in science subjects, a “can do” attitude and be

comfortable and able to work collaboratively as part of a team. You should also be able to undertake

manual handling of equipment and will be expected to take a manual handling

course as part of this role.
